First a HUGE thank-you to Jessica! Thank-you for being my reference and I'm so sorry I didn't get a chance to warn you they where calling! You rock my dear friend. Call me tomorrow!
Last Monday I saw an add on craigslist.com for a full-time job at Kindercare. I actually went there as a child but that is just random and not the point of this! When I got there I was among 12 people applying at a job fair type situation. I had Rach print my cover letter, resume, and references earlier in the day. I felt prepared. Completely at ease. Not at all nervous. I think it showed. I had no idea when I went in what age group they where hiring for. I went through a set of questions with the first woman. Then I had to wait and go through a more intense interview with another woman, Cindy. I asked what age group they where hiring for. When she said the infant room I LIT UP! That's what I've done my whole life. I started watching a baby girl named Faith when she was 3 weeks old and her sister Hailey who was 18 months old when I was just 15 myself. I went on trips with them, babysat most Saturday nights, all summer I'd spend whatever time I could at their house. I volunteered in the church nursery. If there was a baby in my sights I could not help myself. I had to be near them. She said that they had a very hard time finding a person for this room because it requires a very specific type of personality. I told her about my many years of experience. My nanny job, I was a professional nanny for Alex from the time he was an infant until he was a full-blown toddler. My many friends whose babies I watched. Babies are my passion! She was very excited to hear it. She asked me back for a second interview in the morning. I went in at 9am for observation. My mom watched all 3 kids-bless her! I was there for 2 1/2 hours. I talked with the staff, met the children, learned the routine. Cindy told me she would talk to the staff and get their impression of me. I was pretty confident though. The first woman I met, Roda, asked me first thing "if I was the nanny Cindy was so excited about". Why yes, yes that was me...
That was on Wednesday. On Saturday I called to make sure my references had been reached. She told me she needed one more, so I gave her Rae's number. I watched her children a million times as well. She said she was still interviewing. That made me nervous, but I still had a gut feeling that the job was mine. I called her today to make absolutely sure that my references had been contacted. She called me back at 5:30pm and offered me the job!!!! She said I was absolutely perfect for it and to come in tomorrow morning for paperwork and to go get my fingerprints done. Me! Hired! Halleluia! The best part is that Vance will be in their Pre-K room. He will be nearby. That was crucial for me. The girls will also be able to attend their after-school program. Yes, that is beyond awesome! I will have to transfer them to a new school but they are excited about that too. It is the same school their long-time friends Ben and Elora attend. Ben in kindy, Elora in 2nd like Faith. When I told them they jumped up and down and ran around the house. Excited much? Yeah! My mother-in-law is going to watch Vance 1 day a week. 45 hours of daycare after being with me 24/7 is going to be a huge adjustment. I get 1/2 off tuition, it is quite a chunk of my paycheck but Levi and I have to split it, as far as I have read. So, it's not terrible. They will pay for me to get my Child Development Associates (CDA). They have FULL bennefits. 401k, dental, vision, health. It is full time. 9am-6pm. It is the PERFECT job. I am finally feeling like my life has a direction! To say that I am happy does not even begin to cover it! Life is changin'!!!! The future looks fantastic!!!!
